ID90 NOTES
Here is an excellent guide written by Gary Small, August 2016 (more information below this guide):
A Walk through the Minefield of Off-Line Travel
This is an effort to save others some grief and frustration navigating the quagmire of the procedures required to purchase a ZED (Zonal Employee Discount) fare ticket on an airline other than United. This may not be the most elegantly structured “how to” that you’ve ever read, because the state of this process (in August of 2016) is currently an unholy mess.
Firstly, I want to recognize that our Travel Office has the proverbial task of “herding cats” in managing a program that deals with multiple airlines, alliances and cultures. While it is indisputably complicated, it is ultimately much more useable than having to travel to a United Ticket Office or airport counter to have it done manually as we did in the past. If you’ve ever traveled offline into a destination that is NOT served by United (or Continental) and needed a pass on ANOTHER carrier to get “out”, you will remember that it was (almost) impossible. Now you can do it on a laptop (or maybe even smart phone) if you can follow the process.
Before getting in to the “weeds” of the process, you need to be aware that there are two (almost) distinctly different procedures, using two completely unrelated websites, depending on which offline airline is involved. Neither of these are owned or controlled by United, so from our perspective...”it is what it is”. These two websites are myIDtravel.com and ID90travel.com. If you fire up your favorite web browser and go straight to one of these sites, you might get part way through the process of doing some business, but you will NOT be successful in buying a ticket because you actually have to start from the United Flying Together (intranet) website. From there, your retiree credentials are verified and provided to these independent sites as an “eligible” user.
So let’s start with the “better case scenario”. If you want to travel on any of the airlines listed below (under the “MyIDTravel Carrier List”), you can essentially get “1 stop shopping”. In other words, you can purchase and list for your flight simultaneously. In terms of major US carriers, Delta, Southwest and Jet Blue (but NOT American) are included. If you follow the steps on the Flying Together-EmployeeRES-Quick Links-Other Airline/ Interline Travel...then scroll down the page to Leisure Travel, then go to the MyIDTravelPurchase link. You will (finally) arrive on that independent website, but note that you are already logged in as a UA employee/retiree. At that point, you are pretty much “walked” through the process of buying a ticket (eTicket) and can choose a flight to be listed on. You will also see the Green, Yellow or Red “smiley faces” indicating an APPROXIMATE load level for each flight. Once listed, you should print or email the info to yourself for reference, and you SHOULD be able to check in for the flight online and get a (standby) boarding pass to get through security. If you are global entry or TSA Pre-check, there is an option to enter that info as well. If all goes well, you should be “good to go”.
MyIDTravel Carrier List
Adria Airways (JP)
Aer Lingus (EI) AeroMexico (AM) Aerolineas Argentina (AR) Air Berlin (AB)
Air Europa (UX)
Air France (AF)
Air New Zealand (NZ) Alitalia (AZ)
Austrian Airlines (OS) Avianca Airlines (OS) Avianca Brazil (O6)
Azul (AD)
British Airlines (BA) Brussels Air (SN)
Cape Air (9K)
Cathay Pacific (CX) Cayman Airlines (KX) Croatia Airlines (OU) CSA Czech Airlines (OK) Delta Airlines (DL) Dragon Air (KA)
Egypt Air (MS)
Fiji Airways (FJ)
Finnair (AY) Germanwings (4U)
Great Lakes Aviation (ZK) Gulf Air (GF)
Hong Kong Express (UO) Iberia (IB)
Iceland Air (FI)
JetBlue (B6)
Kenya Airways (KQ)
KLM Royal Dutch (KL) LOT Polish (LO) Lufthansa (LH)
Malaysia Airlines (MH) Middle East Airlines (ME) Oman Air (WY)
QANTAS (QF) Scandinavian Airlines (SK) Silver Airways (3M) Southwest Airlines (WN) SWISS International (LX) TAP Portugal (TP)
THAI Airways (TG) Turkish Airlines (TK)
Virgin America (VS)
Virgin Atlantic (VS)
In the “other world” of carriers who do NOT fit entirely into MyIDTravel (most notably American Airlines in terms of US carriers), it gets much more weird. Going back through the Flying Together trail of bread crumbs... Flying Together-EmployeeRES-Quick Links-Other Airline/ Interline Travel...then scroll down the page to Leisure Travel, then go to the ID90T (www.id90travel.com) link. Remember, you must get there via this link...NOT by going directly to that site. THERE, you will still need to log in. Choose United Airlines, THEN your employee number...BUT WAIT...are you ready for this??? You actually MUST use your original CONTINENTAL employee number...repeat..do NOT use your new “u” number because that does NOT work. Then you need a password. If you have ever used this, you will need to either use that password or create a new one. Next you will see the following “pop up” under a United Banner:
Welcome, Love ID90’s benefits? Now book directly from your mobile device with the NEW, FREE ID90Travel App! Save up to 70% on hotels and car rentals in 380,000 destinations world-wide. Listing Instructions: Listing instructions are provided at the end of your transaction in both the Confirmation Page and Confirmation Email. If the instructions are not displayed, please contact United Employee Travel Center at [email protected].
ATTENTION! Travel to Cuba for United States citizens and Permanent Resident Alien is prohibited, unless officially authorized. Travelers are responsible for obtaining necessary authorization from the OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control), an agency of the Dept. of Treasury. Failure to obtain authorization from OFAC may expose the individual to criminal and civil penalties, including fines and imprisonment.

After you clear this “pop up” (by clicking OK), you will go to a straight forward dialogue where you choose your city pair flights and eligible family members. After you go through this part of the process to PURCHASE a ticket (eTicket), you MAY see a completed transaction with your flights, a valid eTicket number and a Confirmation code that APPEARS to be a listing locator...but it is NOT a locator and you are NOT listed. If you do see the Listing Instructions at the end of this process as indicated by the “pop up” above (which I have NOT seen) it should tell you to go back to the MyIDTravel.com LISTING link back on Flying Together. Use the MyIDTravelListing link...NOT the MyIDTravelPurchase link (you just can’t make this stuff up). So do that, list yourself and you will get a valid Locator which SHOULD allow you to check in online for your flight. In the case of American Airlines (where I trip-wired over this obnoxious process), I could NOT check in until I went to the airport ticket counter. The agents there were familiar with this glitch and checked me in without any issues.
Please understand very clearly that this procedure worked in the middle of August 2016, and should be regarded as a continuous “work in progress” with future updates as we learn about future changes. The United Travel Office is working to simplify matters, but United really can’t force American to offer their tickets via the MyIDTravel.com site (owned by Lufthansa), so we are stuck with things as they are.
Since none of us travel offline all that frequently, we need your feedback if you encounter something new, so that we can try to keep this document up-to-date.
Please send all happy or constructive notes to me at [email protected]. Send any complaints or harsh comments to Dave Newell, as he is a much nicer guy and won’t yell at me (too much).

A few tips for those using ZED fares, particularly in Europe.
(from Captain Karen Kahn)
1. If your flight is very full, you may want to buy both a business ZED and a coach ZED on the same flight as they will not let you sit in Business with a Coach ZED fare. If the only seat left is a Business seat, you must have a business ZED to occupy it. You can easily refund whatever tickets you don’t use.
2. If the flight is full, ask for the (flight attendant) jumpseat. As Retired Staff, I’ve been given a FA (outside the cockpit) jumpseat on both Lufthansa (LH) and Iberia (IB), but still had to hand them a ticket.
3. Unlike US airlines, if you’re flying between City A and City C and miss the nonstop flight (for which you had a ZED fares), you’ll need TWO separate tickets to get to City C via City B…not just the 1 coupon which would have worked on the nonstop flight, had seats been available. I flew from Nice to Berlin via Dusseldorf on LH. I was unable to get a seat on the nonstop and they refused to use my Nice-Berlin ticket to go from Nice-Dusseldorf-Berlin, demanding a coupon (now e-ticket) for each segment. If you don’t have a backup non-stop flight, be sure to buy enough ZED fares to get you to your destination via whatever cities have flights through them.
4. Abroad, if you tell the ticket counter that you’re retired staff, you’ll likely be able to keep your suitcase with you as a carry-on, assuming it will fit in the overhead.
5. New FAA regs have caused the airport security to be VERY stiff (especially at LAX) on carry-on dimensions. It doesn’t matter if your bag fits in the overhead, it HAS to fit in their sizer, or you’ll have to check it. BTW, TSA regs do exempt bags of food or merchandize purchased in the airport as no being included in the 2 carry-on limit.
Hope these tips will help someone else…it’s info I wish I’d have known BEFORE I traveled and learned the hard way.

This only applies to Continental retirees - (even though for United purposes we are now considered to be United retirees) namely for the ID 90 website (which we must use for other airline travel). We must continue to use our CONTINENTAL Employee number - FOREVER as our USERNAME. Note that the Continental employee number is technically called & used as a "username, not an employee number! So don't flush it down the toilet! In addition, the password we establish never has to be changed unless we want to change it.
The United Service desk cannot help with this other than to refer you to the ID 90 people. I hope this is of help....and maybe you feel better knowing that your Continental employee number will live on.....at least as long as you do.
The ID 90 call center is located in Argentina. They are friendly and helpful (unlike the etc people), work during normal business hours and respond promptly! The United Service desk could not help with this issue other than referring me to the ID 90 people.
One other thing Barry found out.....evidently Air Canada and Swiss Air, with their ID90 programs, also offer buddy passes for your family or friends! Presumably you get 8 buddy passes per year (they do not roll over to next year), and you do not have to travel with the buddy pass rider.
