AIRLINE CAREER PHOTO/VIDEO ARCHIVES
A collection of Continental Airlines history and photos/videos during our airline careers:
- CAL FLIGHT OPERATIONS, GOLDEN CONTRAILS ISSUES 1965 -1983:
We received (August 2025) from Kevin Ryan, the son of Captain Shaun Ryan (Golden Eagles member, Gone West 2023), a box of Continental Airlines Flight Operations “Golden Contrails” publications (1965 thru 1983), that he inherited.
Captain Ryan had gotten them a long time ago from Captain Dick Grigsby (Golden Eagles member and Historian, Gone West 2014), who had cataloged and kept these publications for posterity.
We now have this treasure at our Kingwood, Texas address. At first we had thought these would be back issues of the Golden Contrails published by us, the Golden Eagles. Instead, they were publications that the “Flight Operations” of CAL had published as recurrent training and tests for the pilots.
We had thought we would scan them and add to our current collection of Golden Contrails issues (1991 thru 2024) on our website (click this LINK), but since they are not that relevant to our Golden Eagles publications, we will store them away if anyone really wants to delve into them in the future.
On these publications, they did include photos of many new pilot classes (1965 thru 1979). For a nostalgic trip back in time, we have posted these classic photos on our website. You can view these pilot classes, by clicking on this link PILOT CLASSES 1965-1979.
There was also one publication that had an excellent photo collage of the First 100 Pilots on the Continental Seniority List, which really goes back in time (1939 thru 1948)! You can view this by clicking on this link FIRST 100 PILOTS.
- CAL PILOTS 1988 VIDEO:
This video discusses the CAL/EAL merger situation, click on link below to "view" this video. The original video was about 85 minutes long, but this file only shows the first 15 minutes of it. Video does not start until the 26 second mark:
